Hugging Face is hiring a ML Engineer Internship - Social Impact Evaluations for Generative Models

About the Role

The Hugging Face Hub’s role as a central repository where the latest generative ML models are shared and discussed makes it an ideal platform for supporting more systematic and transparent assessments of their impact on society.

To facilitate these assessments, you will develop tooling and practical guides implementing recommendations from recent scholarship on defining and measuring critical categories of social impact. To that end, you will:

• Participate in the development of open-source libraries that support documentation and automatic evaluation of relevant aspects of ML models
• Help connect these tools by writing documentation to guide users who want to help evaluate various dimensions of a model’s social impact
• Showcase these tools on a selection of widely-used generative models on the HF Hub across modalities

About you

You’ll enjoy working with us in this role if you care about bringing multiple perspectives on new technologies together and building tools that help users gain a deeper understanding of the social impact of ML systems.

This role will require you to quickly iterate and modify a range of technical tools to find how to best assess the social impact of ML models, as well as write your own to fill gaps in existing evaluations. You will need proficiency in Python and familiarity with our open-source libraries, and we encourage candidates who have experience with multidisciplinary research and with writing guides and documentation to support their tools to apply for this position.

Preferred Location

Ideally, you are based in NYC, but we are open to remote work for the right candidate.
