Meta is hiring a Research Scientist Intern, PHD, PyTorch - Audio AI

Meta is seeking Research Interns to join our PyTorch Audio (TorchAudio) team within PyTorch ​​to work on innovative problems that would power the next generation of Meta products and platforms at scale. Our team’s mission is to accelerate research and productization of audio/speech ML, democratize research outcomes into open-source releases, and use the innovation to drive business impact for Meta.

Our current work spans across multiple areas within audio AI: audio data utilities, automatic speech recognition (ASR), audio-visual speech recognition (AVSR), speech translation (ST), multi-channel speech enhancement/separation, differentiable digital signal processing (DDSP), self-supervised learning (SSL),.etc. The scope of the internship may include designing SoTA models or approaches in one of the above areas. Along with research innovation, another focus is to open source the innovation by delivering intuitive, well-documented, and performant components and APIs through the TorchAudio library. After releasing through TorchAudio, your work may immediately benefit numerous researchers in the audio AI community.

In this role, you will collaborate with researchers and engineers from PyTorch Audio and Meta Reality Labs.

• Develop novel state-of-the-art Audio algorithms and corresponding systems
• Contribute to research that can eventually be open sourced via TorchAudio and be applied to Meta products and services and run on billions of media items every day
• Based on the project, help analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of corresponding deployed algorithms
• Collaborate with team members, all the way from prototyping in a notebook to potentially deploying at scale

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the domain of speech or audio ML, or similar
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
• Experience in Python, with other major languages (C++), or similar

Preferred Qualifications

• Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
• Familiarity with PyTorch and/or other popular frameworks (e.g. ESPNet, SpeechBrain, K2) for building audio/speech ML models.
• Prior experience with a specific audio ML task, e.g. generative modeling for audio synthesis (preferred), speech recognition, speech enhancement and source separation.
• Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
• Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at top AI conferences such as ICASSP, Interspeech, ASRU, SLT or similar.
